TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's military forces carried out a significant live-fire exercise on Friday (March 28) as the Kinmen Defense Command (金門防衛指揮部) orchestrated the "Taiwu Exercise" (太武操演) off the coast of the strategically vital outlying island. The Lienyu Garrison Battalion (烈嶼守備大隊) spearheaded the comprehensive drills in the Donggang sea area (東崗海域), deploying an array of military hardware in a show of defensive readiness that comes amid heightened regional tensions.

Military assets including tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery systems thundered across the training grounds, creating a spectacle that attracted numerous military enthusiasts who gathered to document the powerful display. The exercises have garnered significant public interest against the backdrop of escalating cross-strait tensions. Local reaction among Kinmen residents appears mixed — many voiced support for the enhanced security measures they believe necessary for regional stability, while others expressed concerns about how the increasing frequency of military drills might disrupt daily life and potentially affect the broader security environment.

Military officials emphasized that the Taiwu Exercise incorporated sophisticated joint defense operational concepts designed to enhance rapid response capabilities across multiple threat scenarios. According to command statements, the training methodology follows principles of "single-point change, chain reaction, comprehensive adaptation" (一點生變、連鎖反應、全面制變), a systematic approach intended to refine both command structures and combat procedures under pressure. Defense authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continuous improvement of combat readiness as part of Taiwan's broader strategy to protect its outlying territories. The strategic significance of Lienyu — positioned southwest of Kinmen proper and just kilometers from mainland China — makes these exercises particularly crucial for Taiwan's layered defense posture.
