TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists anticipate Typhoon Podul (楊柳) will make landfall in Taiwan Wednesday (Aug. 13), potentially bringing heavy rainfall to regions near Hualien and Taitung counties. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署), Taiwan's meteorological agency, expects significant precipitation across eastern and southern Taiwan as the storm approaches. Weather officials are closely monitoring the typhoon's trajectory and intensity as it moves toward the island.
Authorities plan to issue a sea warning late Monday night through Tuesday as the typhoon approaches Taiwan. Weather officials will issue a land warning around noon Tuesday if the storm's trajectory remains unchanged. Residents in central and southern coastal areas should prepare for scattered showers beginning Monday night as outer bands reach the island.
The typhoon's approach will bring intermittent convection near Taiwan's southeastern coast. Meteorologist Shin-Ping Kuan (官欣平) warned that Typhoon Podul's compact and robust structure could deliver significant wind and rain to the Hualien-Taitung region and southern Taiwan. Rainfall and strengthening winds are also expected along Keelung's northern coast, eastern areas, and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島) in Taiwan's southernmost tip.

The meteorological forum suggested this could mark another significant typhoon to strike Taiwan in 2025. Although Typhoon Podul has intensified to moderate strength, unfavorable environmental conditions may weaken the storm as it approaches Taiwan, potentially reducing it to mild typhoon status or weaker upon landfall.
