TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Golden Horse Awards (金馬獎) executive committee announced on Tuesday (Aug. 12) that it will honor actress Chen Shu-fang (陳淑芳) with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the film festival's 62nd edition. This accolade recognizes her enduring contributions to the performing arts, underscoring her significant impact on the industry.
Chen began her career in 1957 with the Taiwanese-language film "Whose Sin" (誰的罪惡). Her extensive body of work spans eras and genres, dating back to black-and-white films during a time when Taiwanese television only had three channels. Notable films include "The Boys from Fengkuei" (風櫃來的人), "The Butcher's Wife" (殺夫), "Taipei Story" (青梅竹馬), and "A City of Sadness" (悲情城市).
Chen expressed her joy at receiving the award, emphasizing her lifelong passion for acting. She made history by winning two major Golden Horse Awards in the same year, earning Best Leading Actress for "Little Big Women" (孤味) and Best Supporting Actress for "Dear Tenant" (親愛的房客) in 2020. Following these achievements, she has actively participated in various projects, including television, feature films, short films, and voice acting.
Her collaboration with director Joe Hsieh (謝文明) in the animated short film "Night Bus" (夜車) marked a notable highlight in her career. Their latest project, the animated short "Praying Mantis" (螳螂), has already garnered recognition, securing selections at the Venice Film Festival (威尼斯影展) and the Toronto International Film Festival (多倫多影展). The Golden Horse Awards will announce the nominees for its 62nd edition on Oct. 1, with the awards ceremony scheduled for Nov. 22.
