TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's prosecutorial authorities launched a corruption investigation Thursday (Aug. 14) targeting a police squadron chief surnamed Chen (陳), marking the latest probe into law enforcement misconduct. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office (台北地檢署) coordinated the operation involving the New Taipei City Investigation Bureau (新北市調處) and Taipei City Criminal Investigation Division (台北市刑大). The case underscores ongoing efforts to combat corruption within Taiwan's police ranks.

Chen faces allegations of misappropriating public funds while supervising the Eighth Team in the Taipei City Criminal Investigation Corps (台北市刑警大隊偵查第八隊). The officer transferred to the Wenshan First Precinct (文山第一分局) as squadron chief in August 2024, where embezzlement accusations subsequently emerged. The charges span his service across multiple units within Taipei's police structure, raising concerns about oversight mechanisms.

The Wenshan First Precinct has committed to full cooperation with the Taipei District Prosecutors Office while vowing accountability for implicated personnel. Precinct officials emphasized their dedication to investigating and strictly addressing illegal activities by police officers. The department stressed its unwavering commitment to maintaining law enforcement integrity regardless of circumstances. ◼
