TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's eastern regions experienced unstable weather conditions on Monday (Aug. 25) as the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署), Taiwan's national meteorological agency, reported increased atmospheric moisture levels. The enhanced rainfall patterns threaten to deliver intense short-duration downpours, with mountainous areas facing the highest risk. Meteorologist Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) simultaneously tracked a developing tropical disturbance positioned east of the Philippines.
Chia explained that the tropical disturbance could potentially intensify into a tropical depression or full typhoon while tracking westward through Luzon toward the South China Sea between Wednesday and Thursday. The meteorologist emphasized that development probability remains relatively low despite the system's westward trajectory. Typhoon Kajiki (颱風劍魚) currently sits over Tokyo Bay, following a northwestward path toward the Indochina Peninsula while posing minimal direct threat to Taiwan.
The CWA also highlighted scorching temperatures plaguing Taiwan's western regions, with readings surpassing 38 degrees Celsius (100.4°F) on Monday and forecasts predicting sustained heat above 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F) through Friday. Despite weekend moisture increases, temperatures could still climb beyond 35 degrees Celsius (95°F) in affected areas. Southeastern Taiwan will experience moderated heat from cloud cover, though temperatures will hover near 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F). The offshore Penghu (澎湖), Kinmen (金門), and Matsu (馬祖) archipelagos will encounter less dramatic temperature fluctuations due to oceanic moderating influences. ◼
