TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) announced Friday (Dec. 5) that Nvidia will likely sign a contract before the Lunar New Year. The contract covers the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (北投士林科技園區) project. Construction will begin in June, with completion expected in three to four years. The technology park will house Nvidia operations in Taiwan's capital, representing a major investment in Taiwan's semiconductor and technology sector.
Lee expressed hope in an interview with radio host Anne Wang (王淺秋) that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) will witness the contract signing in Taiwan. The city government is actively advancing preliminary work, including discussions with Nvidia about urban planning changes and investment proposal reviews for the T17 and T18 sites. Lee attributed the project's progress to Shin Kong Life Insurance Co., Ltd.'s (新光人壽) willingness to relinquish land rights for the T17 and T18 bases. He expressed gratitude for the insurance company's cooperation in facilitating the development.
Lee emphasized that Nvidia's project holds greater importance than his candidacy for New Taipei City's mayoral election in the 2026 local election. He will pursue the mayoral race under the Kuomintang's (KMT, 國民黨), Taiwan's main opposition party, nomination mechanism. Lee is currently the popular KMT candidate for the New Taipei City mayoral election. Earlier this month, New Taipei City Deputy Mayor Liu Ho-jan (劉和然) also announced his candidacy for the city's mayoral election. ◼
