TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an's (蔣萬安) satisfaction rating reached 59%, a 5% increase since his two-year mark, according to a TVBS Poll Center (TVBS 民調中心) poll released Monday (Dec. 8). Dissatisfaction rose to 25%, a 9% increase from the previous survey conducted at the two-year milestone. The poll showed 35% of residents credit the city government for successfully assisting Nvidia in selecting Taipei as its future headquarters location.
Nvidia confirmed plans to establish its headquarters in the Beitou Shilin Technology Park (士林北投科技園區), with the Taipei city government set to sign a land rights agreement before the Lunar New Year, a major traditional holiday. The poll indicates 35% of Taipei residents credit the city government for Nvidia's site selection, while 8% credit the central government and 37% believe both contributed. The TVBS Poll Center conducted the survey from Wednesday (Nov. 27) to Wednesday (Dec. 4), interviewing 1,006 Taipei residents aged 20 and above with a ±3.1 percentage point sampling error.
Mayor Chiang revealed on Dec. 5 that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang plans to attend the company's year-end banquet and the land rights signing ceremony. The mayor stated the city government hopes everything proceeds smoothly so both sides can participate in the signing ceremony together. Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) noted Nvidia engaged a local architect to review original U.S. design plans, pending approval of urban planning changes. ◼
