TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese film "A Foggy Tale" (大濛) nears NT$30 million (around US$962,000) in box office revenue this week on Monday (Dec. 8). The production team released new behind-the-scenes footage showcasing the art department's recreation of 1950s Taipei streets. The footage reveals the meticulous process of depicting protagonist Ayue's journey from Chiayi, a southern Taiwan city, to Taipei, the capital.

The production team meticulously researched history, evident in extensive notes on their manuscripts documenting 1950s Taiwan details. Filming spanned Tainan and Chiayi, both cities in southern Taiwan, with actress 9m88 praising the authentic set design. Actor Emerson Tsai (蔡昌憲) revealed he dined with co-star Chen I-wen (陳以文), whose off-screen persona starkly contrasts with his villainous role.

Positive word-of-mouth has recently gained momentum for the historical drama about Taiwan's authoritarian period, the White Terror era. Renowned director Wu Nien-Jen (吳念真) expressed his reflections on social media, admiring the film's sincerity and authenticity. Wu remarked that Chen's portrayal of a spy leader without retribution represents the film's most heartbreaking element.

"A Foggy Tale" continues to captivate audiences with its authentic portrayal of 1950s Taiwan during a politically turbulent period. The film's compelling performances and meticulous historical recreation promise further box office milestones in Taiwan's cinema market. Fans and critics alike eagerly anticipate the film's continued success as it expands to more theaters. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.2)
