TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chunghwa Post (中華郵政), Taiwan's national postal service, announced a 50% discount on its "Future Mail" (未來郵件) service Friday (Jan. 2), valid through the end of 2026. The time-capsule mail service allows customers to send letters to their future selves. Customers can save up to NT$1,850 (around US$59) on handling and storage fees during the promotional period.
Chunghwa Post stated in a press release that customers can visit any of the 54 designated post offices nationwide to receive the 50% discount on handling and storage fees. The postal service has offered Future Mail since Nov. 15, 2012. Last year on Oct. 3, the company launched a new slogan, "Traveling through time and space to convey warmth" (漫遊時空傳遞溫情), and introduced two specialized boxes for the service.
Sending and storing a time capsule for 20 to 30 years typically costs NT$3,700 (around US$118). The promotion reduces this by up to NT$1,850 (around US$59). Chunghwa Post said Future Mail suits significant life stages, encouraging students to write their dreams, teachers to leave blessings, newlyweds to record marital vows, and parents to share advice with their children.
Chunghwa Post suggests people write New Year's resolutions and wishes as a future self-reflection tool. Patients can also send words of encouragement or gratitude as letters to their future selves or relatives.
