TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Starlux Airlines (星宇航空) received Taiwan's first Airbus A350-1000 aircraft at Taoyuan International Airport (桃園國際機場) on Tuesday (Jan. 6) at 10 a.m., marking a milestone for the carrier. Chairman K.W. Chang (張國煒) personally piloted the wide-body jet from France back to Taiwan, with the aircraft bearing registration number B-58551. The delivery represents a significant expansion of Taiwan's aviation capabilities and Starlux's growing fleet.

The A350-1000, the largest aircraft in Starlux Airlines' fleet, features a bespoke livery with an obsidian gray base and earth gold accents, underscoring its flagship status. Constructed with carbon-fiber composites, the aircraft offers enhanced durability and performance for long-haul operations. The A350-1000 features a four-class configuration with 350 seats: 4 in first class, 40 in business class, 36 in premium economy, and 270 in economy class.

The aircraft, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, has a range of 15,600 kilometers (approximately 9,693 miles) and improves fuel efficiency by 25% while reducing noise. After landing, Chang stated that Starlux had previously ordered 18 A350-1000 aircraft from Airbus, and the first one finally arrived in Taiwan Tuesday. Chang noted this marks the first time Taiwan has received so many aircraft within a year, presenting considerable challenges for employee training and flight scheduling.

The A350-1000 is scheduled to enter service in February, enhancing Starlux Airlines' offerings on Asian and North American routes. The airline plans to expand its fleet further in 2026 with the addition of five more A350-1000 aircraft. Starlux Airlines currently operates a fleet of 30 aircraft and has placed orders for 10 A350F freighters, indicating a strategic move into the cargo market. ◼
