Taiwan stocks surge on strong TSMC, panel sector gains (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market closed at a record high for the second consecutive day on Tuesday (Jan. 6), surging 471.26 points to reach 30,576.30 points. The 1.57% gain came amid strong trading activity totaling NT$733.547 billion (around US$23.29 billion). Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (台積電) rose NT$35 (around US$1.11) to close at NT$1,705 (around US$54.13), benefiting from strong performance in panels, memory, and PCBs.

Among the eight major stock categories, machinery and electronics led gains with a 1.92% increase, while plastics and chemicals rose by 1.63% on Tuesday. Cement and ceramics declined by 0.43%, and food stocks fell by 0.52% during the trading session on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Trading volumes showed 26,889,411 buy orders against 15,553,928 sell orders, with a total of 11,936,720 shares traded across the market.

 

At the closing bell, 569 stocks rose, 399 fell, and 118 remained unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange on Tuesday. Innolux (群創), Powerchip (力積電), Winbond (華邦電), Macronix (旺宏), and AUO (友達) led in trading volume across the market during the session. AVer (圓展), Fitipower (天鈺), Silicon Optronics (晶相光), Eternal Materials (長興), and ACE PILLAR (羅昇) topped the list of gainers, while Cheer Time (晟鈦), King Core (鈞寶), and AIPTEK (天瀚) were among the biggest decliners.

Wall Street's four major indices also rose, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average hitting a new historical high ahead of Taiwan's trading session. TSMC gained 2.1% and Foxconn (鴻海) rose 0.64%, while MediaTek (聯發科) ended in the red on Tuesday. Small and medium-cap stocks performed well, with Nanya Technology (南亞科) and Macronix hitting limit-up, and Winbond rising nearly 9% during the session.

 
Panel stocks including Innolux and AUO also hit limit-up, reflecting strong demand in the display sector. Among high-priced stocks, Global Unichip Corporation (創意) gained over 7% and Phison Electronics (群聯) reached limit-up during Tuesday's session. Auras (雙鴻) remained flat, while AblePrint Technology (印能) fell below the NT$1,000 (around US$31.75) mark on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.5)
