TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Nvidia will establish its Taiwan headquarters in Beitou-Shilin Technology Park, with a NT$12.2 billion (around US$385 million) land lease finalized, Taipei announced Friday (Feb. 6). Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) said Nvidia's U.S. headquarters is coordinating the signing ceremony, which involves a contract with Nvidia's subsidiary in Taiwan. The facility will be located in Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (BSTP, 北投士林科技園區).
Lee said he expects the contract signing to occur as early as Tuesday (Feb. 11) or by Thursday (Feb. 13), ensuring completion before the Lunar New Year. The initial lease estimate was below NT$12.5 billion (around US$395 million) after the city terminated its agreement with Shin Kong Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (新光人壽). Nvidia will absorb over NT$1.4 billion (around US$44 million) from the contract termination with Shin Kong, including a refundable NT$160 million (around US$5 million) business tax. The NT$12.2 billion lease covers these obligations, facilitating a smooth transaction.
Lee said contract finalization will allow construction to begin, with architects already planning the headquarters' design. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) has praised the Taiwan headquarters' design, saying it surpasses the U.S. headquarters. Lee said he hopes construction will start by June, focusing on the T17 and T18 buildings with no plans for a second headquarters. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.68)
