TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Eric Chu, chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT), and Ko Wen-je, chairman of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), will personally undertake inter-party cooperation negotiations on Monday (Oct. 30), Chu revealed the day before.

Discussions will focus on building a coalition government, maximizing legislative seats, and identifying the opposition's strongest presidential candidate, the KMT chairman explained in the Facebook post.

The talks, initiated between the KMT and the TPP, are scheduled to start Monday morning, and Chu, who will negotiate as party chairman and chairman of Hou Yu-ih's national campaign headquarters, stressed that the negotiations were for Taiwan's future and cross-strait peace, not for the parties themselves.

Chu emphasized the goal of reforming Taiwan's democratic politics.

He assured that if the KMT and TPP successfully collaborate, their future government wouldn't resemble the current Democratic Progressive Party's rule, which he criticized for being a single dominant party, unwilling to accommodate differing voices.

He urged discussions on Taiwan's future for the benefit of the Republic of China (Taiwan), vowing, "We will definitely achieve national security, social stability, and peace of mind for the people."
