TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Tourism Administration is set to roll out a new "Golden Years" (凰金遊程Golden Years) travel program next year, a promising venture for in-depth travel for senior travelers, in response to Taiwan's aging population.

The Tourism Administration estimates that Taiwan has a senior travel demographic of 4 million individuals and projects a tourist value potential of up to NT$120 billion after including international senior travelers.

"Domestic tours for the elderly market approximately amounts to NT$40 billion with an international traveler addition of NT$60 billion," explained Deputy Director-General Lin Hsin-Jen. "Speaking of output value, we are hoping for a 10% to 20% growth—a scale reaching NT$120 billion."

Travel agency operators and hotels have begun strategizing their marketing efforts, focusing on this demographic's travel and consumption nuances. To date, 11 Golden Years itineraries have been introduced by eight travel agencies across Taiwan.

Whether it's accommodation or dining, the potency of the spending power of senior travelers isn't going unnoticed. More discounts and leisurely itineraries are being rolled out in anticipation of this demand.
