TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) countered allegations from the Kuomintang (KMT) on Wednesday (Dec. 6) that the DPP vice presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim was overly pro-U.S.

Chen Shi-kai, spokesperson for the DPP presidential candidate Lai Ching-te's campaign office, said the KMT has demonstrated a lack of understanding regarding economic trade issues and Taiwan-U.S. relations.

The KMT's criticism, led by legislator candidate Hsu Chiao-hsin, accused Hsiao of kowtowing to the U.S. during her tenure in Washington.

Hsu referred to a confidential communication log marked classified, which chronicled the events of an April 18 bilateral meeting centered around discussions of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden.

Defending the vice presidential candidate, Chen highlighted recent milestones in Taiwan-U.S. cooperation such as the signing of the Taiwan-U.S. 21st Century Trade Initiative and expedited efforts to resolve issues of double taxation as evidence of strong and stable relations between the two nations.

Chen criticized the KMT legislator candidate for illegally revealing classified documents for political gain and called for an explanation regarding the motives and authenticity of the document's disclosure to society.
