Taiwan’s Interior Minister warns of election disinfo (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of the Interior Lin Yu-chang highlighted on Thursday (Dec. 7) the prevalence of "cognitive warfare" tactics as Taiwan's election draws near, characterizing the misleading information as "a mix of truth and falsehoods, which are hard to distinguish."

During an interview at the Executive Yuan, Lin appealed to the public's sense of discernment and caution, urging citizens not to be swayed by such information and to ensure that the elections can proceed smoothly.

This statement comes in the wake of reports a day earlier that surveillance data from various Taiwanese intelligence agencies is being sold on the dark Web at high prices, potentially jeopardizing the privacy of political figures and foreign personnel stationed in Taiwan.

Responding to these concerns, Lin argued that cognitive warfare and false information don't necessarily connect directly to public security issues. Lin assured relevant departments are currently handling the investigative and legal proceedings concerning breaches in surveillance data.
