TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen met with the 2023 World Baker of the Year, Justin Wu, at the Presidential Office on Tuesday (Dec. 19) morning, affirming his work in showcasing the creativity and strength of Taiwan's baking industry to the world.

Tsai stated that the government is actively integrating resources from various ministries to help upgrade the baking industry and increase its international engagement. She expressed her hope that people around the world will get to taste the delicious outcomes of Taiwan's baking artisans.

Last year, Wu won the group competition at the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie, and this year, he was honored with the World Baker of the Year title by the Unibread Bread Baking Championships (UIBC).

Inspired by the Seediq tribe, Wu created an art bread piece and has served as a coach at the UIBC Junior World Championship, leading the Taiwanese team to victory.

President Tsai emphasized the significance of Taiwan's baking industry, noting its value exceeding NT$100 billion. Taiwanese bakers have attracted international attention with their diverse and exquisite styles, performing impressively at global competitions.

The Taipei Bakery Association also received Tsai’s gratitude for their efforts in passing down experience within the baking community and for securing several international contests to be hosted in Taiwan.

Looking to the future, Tsai expects continued high quality and innovation from Taiwan's bakery sector as it seeks to expand its market and introduce Taiwan's delectable baked goods to palates around the world.
