TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice Presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vowed to review and reflect on allegations of corruption within the DPP government. The remarks came during a Central Election Committee (CEC) policy presentation on Friday (Dec. 22) after her opponent, Kuomintang's (KMT) Jaw Shaw-kong, leveled the claims.

Jaw attacked the DPP during the event, stating, "Corruption has become the DPP's DNA." He also raised questions about the DPP obstructing Terry Gou, founder of Foxconn, during the acquisition of Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT) vaccines and expressed suspicions over the substantial increase in the market value of Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corp. Jaw advocated for the reinstatement of the Special Investigation Division to tackle corruption.

Jaw showed concern for young voters, rejecting the idea that they were apathetic or inactive, and instead labeled them as a generation unable to fully utilize their capabilities.

In response, Hsiao admitted mistakes had been made within the party and reaffirmed the necessity of self-review. She drew on examples of marriage equality and energy transformation to highlight the DPP's commitment to reform and progressive policies, despite encountered difficulties.

Hsiao likened the government to a team in an international competition—satisfaction when performance is good, disappointment when it's poor. But, she said, the most vital element is guidance and support because we're all part of a team and a unified nation.
