TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President-elect Hsiao Bi-khim attended the opening ceremony of the "2024 Global SDGs Two-Day International Forum (SDGs+City)" on Thursday (March 28), emphasizing the importance of local and international connections.

In her speech, Hsiao stated that the government will begin implementing the "Local Revitalization 3.0" plan next year. The plan will better meet local needs and strengthen local cross-domain cooperation and innovation to deepen local and international connections.

Hsiao mentioned that she had discussed potential future scenarios with President-elect Lai Ching-te. Lai advised her to participate in forums with international connections and knowledge. Hsiao believes Taiwan's vitality is more resilient and forward-looking than anyone thinks.

Hsiao pointed out that the world faces many new challenges, including inflation caused by international geopolitical turmoil, economic inequality, and problems caused by changes in population structure and imbalance in urban and rural development.

To alleviate these problems, the government launched the Local Revitalization National Strategic Plan five years ago and accelerated this plan in 2020, allocating nearly NT$5 billion to establish local support systems, strengthen the role of young people, and systematically assist in local-led overall development.

Hsiao emphasized that while it's important to continue allocating funds, their utilization must align with local needs to further strengthen both local and international connections.
