SAO PAULO (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Friendship Group of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, consisting of 212 members, collectively donated US$10,000 (approximately NT$310,000) on Tuesday (April 9) to aid the Taiwanese government in the relief effort of the Hualien earthquake.

Junio Amaral, chairperson of the Taiwan Friendship Group, expressed concern for Taiwan's disaster immediately after the earthquake, rallying the group's members on X and Instagram to contribute to the relief efforts.

Last month, Amaral visited Taiwan at the invitation of the Taiwanese government. During his visit, he was warmly received by Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu, Minister of Justice Tsai Ching-hsiang, and Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu.

Amaral emphasized that his visit to Taiwan was the most memorable of his political career, expressing deep admiration for the sincere hospitality of Minister Wu and the friendly warmth of the Taiwanese people.

He expressed sadness over Taiwan's largest earthquake in 25 years, hoping to convey a heartfelt sentiment through the donation and affirm the strong will and bravery of the Taiwanese people in the face of challenges.

The Brazilian representative office has transferred the donation to the Ministry of Health and Welfare's disaster relief fund.

The Taiwan Friendship Group was established in October 2023 with the endorsement of 212 deputies, continuously supporting Taiwan's participation in international organizations through letters, endorsements, and proposals.
