KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung City is continuing its subsidy program for the reconstruction of old and dangerous buildings in 2024, with eligible applicants able to receive up to NT$ 115,000.

The safety of older buildings has become a concern following a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Taiwan on April 3. Of the over 1.1 million residential units in Kaohsiung City, approximately 122,000 are over 50 years old, and 581,000 are over 30 years old, accounting for about 52.8% of the total.

In response to these concerns, the Public Works Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government has launched a seismic assessment subsidy. To encourage residents to apply and improve their living conditions, the bureau has secured funding from the central government and its own resources.

Each reconstruction project can receive a central government subsidy of NT$ 55,000. The city government will also provide an additional subsidy of up to NT$ 60,000 per case, meaning each project can receive a maximum subsidy of NT$ 115,000.

Residents can access the application documents on the website of the Department of Building Affairs, Public Works Bureau. The application period is open until Dec. 2.
