HUALIEN (TVBS News) — The demolition of the Uranus Building in Hualien City, which began leaning after an earthquake, is expected to finish ahead of schedule on Monday (April 15), the 11th day of the operation.
Meanwhile, the surrounding roads, pipelines, and drainage systems will reopen on April 18 or 19, said Chang Shih-chia, the head of the Water Resources Section of the Hualien Economic Affairs Department.
Chang stated that half of the second and third floors have been demolished, leaving the latter halves of the first and second floors. The remaining sections are currently being sampled by investigators.
Chang said the demolition of the Uranus Building is expected to finish early, but the restoration of the surrounding roads, pipelines, and drainage systems will follow. He anticipates the roads will be passable by April 18 or 19.
As for the cats living in the building, one was found a day earlier, workers were immediately asked to help trap it. However, the cat quickly escaped in the direction of Huagang Street due to the building's uneven rubble and the cat's agility. A worker who attempted to catch the cat slipped but was not injured.
