TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti led a bipartisan delegation of parliamentarians on a visit to Taiwan on Thursday (April 18) in a bid to inject new momentum into Taiwan-Kosovo relations. The delegation was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu.

Wu hosted a dinner on Thursday evening to welcome Hoti, co-chair of the Kosovo-Taiwan parliamentary friendship group Artan Abrashi, Committee on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora member Time Kadrijaj, and former Deputy Prime Minister Driton Selmanaj. The group discussed advancing bilateral relations between the two nations.

Wu stated that Taiwan and Kosovo, as like-minded democracies, should unite and cooperate. He expressed hopes for deepening exchanges with Kosovo on issues such as countering disinformation, disaster prevention and relief, and resilient supply chains for democracy.

This visit marks Hoti's third trip to Taiwan. He expressed admiration for Taiwan's democratic and economic achievements and was pleased that Perparim Rama, the mayor of Kosovo's capital, attended the Smart City Forum in Taiwan in March and established a sister city relationship with Kaohsiung.

During his visit, Hoti will also meet with relevant economic and academic institutions to discuss future cooperation. He pledged to promote bilateral economic and academic exchanges, believing that Kosovo can serve as a bridge for Taiwan's relations with Western Balkan countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) stated that both Taiwan and Kosovo are at the forefront of defending democracy and freedom, and are tirelessly striving for international participation. The ministry is willing to expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields with like-minded partners, jointly pursuing regional peace and stability, and enhancing democratic resilience and prosperity.
