TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan is bracing for a hot day, with temperatures expected to reach 36 degrees Celsius in the southern and southeastern regions, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Tuesday (April 30).

The high temperatures are expected to be accompanied by Foehn winds in Taitung County. The CWA issued a heat advisory with a yellow warning in Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Taitung County.

A change in weather is expected later in the day as a front approaches, bringing increased moisture and a chance of brief showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the central and northern regions. The northeastern region and the mountainous areas of Greater Taipei are likely to experience heavier rainfall.

Meteorologist Lin Te-en noted that May and June are typically the months for the plum rain, and this year, Taiwan is expected to see above-average rainfall in May. This prediction is supported by the latest simulation results from the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction Climate Forecast System, which indicate a higher-than-average rainfall for Taiwan in May.

While the expected rainfall could alleviate the current tense water situation, experts warn against excessive rain, which could lead to flooding.
