TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Kuomintang (KMT) has been renamed the 'Mainland Kuomintang' on Google Maps and Wikipedia, sparking discussion. This change followed a proposal by KMT caucus whip Fu Kun-chi to replace the term "China" with "Mainland" during a meeting of the Internal Administration Committee on Wednesday (May 1).

The Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) spokeswoman Tsai Meng-chun declined to comment on the matter on the following day, stating that the foundation respects the discussions of the legislature and related matters.

The temporary proposal, put forth by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Su Chiao-hui, called for a review of whether Taiwan should open group tours to China and the scope of such openness. It also suggested measures to assist affected industries.

Fu disagreed with Su's use of the terms "our country" and "China" in the proposal, stating that "any resolution made by the Legislative Yuan cannot violate the constitution" and that "legislators should maintain a certain standard when meeting here."

At the request of KMT Legislator Hsu Yu-chen, all instances of "China" in Su's proposal were changed to "Mainland," and "our country's restricted flight zone" was changed to "Taiwan's restricted flight zone."

The use of these terms carries political implications, and Fu's actions following his trip to China have led many online users to question his motives.
