TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese Director Wei Te-sheng (魏德聖) issued a formal apology to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) on Thursday (May 23) following controversial remarks made during an interview with the popular YouTuber channel "Ku's dream."

The comments, which sparked heated online debate, led Wei to express regret over his "overly assertive words" on Facebook.

Wei's apology stems from a discussion on the choices Taiwan and South Korea have made regarding their focus on technology and entertainment industries, respectively.

His statements during the video interview prompted a flurry of discussions among social media users. In response, Wei took to Facebook to acknowledge his mistake, stating he felt sorry for his words and promising to personally visit TSMC. He also offered TSMC employees free movie tickets as a gesture of his apology.

Wei expressed his hope that the incident would ignite a "beautiful spark" between Taiwan's technology and cultural sectors.

By extending an olive branch to TSMC and its employees, Wei aims to demonstrate his commitment to fostering a positive relationship between the arts and technological innovation in Taiwan.

As the story unfolds, the tech and cultural communities are watching closely to see if Wei's efforts will indeed lead to a more collaborative and harmonious relationship between these two vital sectors of Taiwanese society.
