TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a statement made on Thursday (May 23), Taiwan People's Party (民眾黨, TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) expressed respect for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) caucus's decision to abandon violent filibustering in favor of using speeches, motions, and re-voting within the legislative rules to delay the parliamentary reform bill. However, he advised the DPP to learn to "lose gracefully."

The Legislative Yuan witnessed chaos on May 17 as it reviewed the parliamentary reform bill, leading to a full-blown melee. The continuation of the bill's review on May 21 saw the DPP caucus opting for a non-violent approach to delay the proceedings.

Ko highlighted the importance of balancing the majority's power and the minority's rights within a democratic system. He warned against the dangers of absolute majority rule, where any party with over 51% of the seats could potentially dominate without considering minority opinions.

Ko discussed the delicate balance between majority rule and minority rights in a democracy through a Facebook post. He emphasized that if the principle of "the minority submits to the majority" were taken to its extreme, minority parties would lose their significance, leading to unchecked majority rule.
