TAINAN (TVBS News) — The Tainan City Government has allocated NT$180.68 million to equip over 4,000 classrooms with smart touch-screen TVs and enamel water-wipe blackboards. This initiative aims to create "dust-free" classrooms and protect teachers and students from chalk dust pollution.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) emphasized this plan as a critical step in enhancing teaching equipment and environmental quality, expecting full implementation by the end of May 2025.

Tainan City Education Department Commissioner Cheng Hsin-hui (鄭新輝) stated that the smart touch-screen TVs offer high-definition displays with interactive touch functions, supporting multimedia teaching and enhancing teacher-student interaction and learning outcomes. The enamel water-wipe blackboards, durable for over 20 years, are dust-free and odorless, significantly protecting the health of teachers and students.

The equipment upgrade plan will benefit more than 130,000 students citywide. Teachers have noted that the new equipment facilitates interactive teaching, improves student health, and significantly boosts students' interest in learning. The Education Department announced plans to organize training courses after the upgrade to help teachers familiarize themselves with the new equipment and ensure its efficient use in teaching.
