TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Monday (Aug. 5) congratulated Taiwanese gymnast Tang Chia-hung (唐嘉鴻) on Facebook for winning a bronze medal in the Men's Horizontal Bar final at the Paris Games despite a fall.

Tang, known as the "King of Cats," scored 13.966 to claim the bronze medal. President Lai praised Tang for his resilience, stating that he brought honor to himself and Taiwan.

Lai noted Tang's impressive history, including an Asian Games gold medal and setting a record for Taiwan in the all-around gymnastics event at the Tokyo Olympics.

Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) congratulated Tang, highlighting his remarkable recovery from an Achilles tendon rupture a year ago. Hsiao acknowledged the support from Tang's family, support staff, and medical team in his comeback.

Lai also cheered on Taiwan's table tennis players. He praised Chuang Chih-yuan (莊智淵), Taiwan's most frequent Olympian and "table tennis godfather," who, along with Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒) and Kao Cheng-jui (高承睿), defeated Egypt to advance to the quarterfinals in the Men's Team event.
