TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Security Bureau (NSB, 國安局) reported Tuesday (Dec. 3) three security lapses during the welcome ceremony for Taiwan's baseball team at Taoyuan International Airport.
The team had clinched the championship at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Premier12 tournament on Nov. 24 and returned a day later. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) greeted the team upon their arrival, but employees from Tasa Meng Duty-Free Group (采盟免稅店) caused a security concern by crowding for photos.
The report identified inadequate planning of ceremonial routes, poor management of photo opportunities, and insufficient on-site contingency measures. The bureau has submitted its review to the Legislative Yuan. It stated that it would enhance communication and coordination, carefully plan routes, and improve operational skills to handle unexpected situations.
The bureau emphasized avoiding crowded locations for future events and meticulously planning routes and stopping points. The Special Services Center (特勤中心) vowed to incorporate this incident into its educational focus, strengthening guard planning and operational skills to ensure successful security missions.
