TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China's Ministry of National Defense has asserted its autonomy in conducting military exercises, citing its needs and the current struggle situation, as Director General Wu Qian (吳謙) stated on Friday (Dec. 13). He emphasized the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) unwavering commitment to countering Taiwan independence and promoting reunification.

Taiwan's defense department recently reported an unprecedented scale of Chinese warship deployments near Taiwan, prompting the establishment of a "response center" to monitor PLA activities closely. Wu responded by underscoring the PLA's sacred duty to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that any attempts at independence through foreign alliances or military means would face severe consequences.

Meanwhile, Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) recently transited through Hawaii and Guam in the U.S., yet the PLA has not announced any military exercises. The situation remains tense as both sides continue to assert their positions in this geopolitical standoff.
