TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Railway Administration (台鐵公司) will add 24 train services for the Lunar New Year holiday to meet increased passenger demand. Starting Saturday (Jan. 11), the public can check the schedule for these additional trains on the Taiwan Railway Administration website or the Taiwan Railway e-booking app (台鐵e訂通).

The administration plans to open ticket sales on Jan. 14 for the services running from Jan. 24-25 and Jan. 29 to Feb. 2. Among these, 16 will be reserved-seat trains, while eight will offer unreserved seating. The overall capacity during the holiday will increase by 9.2% compared to regular days and 3% compared to last year's holiday.

To further boost capacity, the administration will operate eight EMU3000 unreserved-seat trains between Qidu (七堵) and Kaohsiung on Jan. 25 and from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2. These trains will feature 12 unreserved cars, and tickets will be available for purchase four days before departure through various sales channels.

Additionally, the administration aims to enhance rail services in western Taiwan for travelers between Taipei and Taichung. During the holiday, 39 direct trains will run, stopping at major stations such as Taipei, Banqiao, Fengyuan (豐原), Taichung, and Changhua, reducing travel time to under two hours.

With the opening of online, app, convenience store, and phone booking options on Jan. 14, the administration encourages travelers to secure their tickets early for a smoother travel experience during the festive period.
