TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Parent Education Association (TPEA, 台灣家長教育聯盟) urged high schools nationwide on Wednesday (March 5) to halt the publication of the General Scholastic Ability Test (學測) scores. This call supports student groups advocating for a broader evaluation of student success beyond exam results.
EdYouth (台灣一滴優教育協會), a student organization, held a press conference in Taipei on Tuesday, demanding schools stop releasing academic rankings. This initiative has gained backing from several legislators and prompted the Ministry of Education (MOE, 教育部) to ask schools to avoid defining student success through stereotypes.
TPEA emphasized that the new curriculum aims to nurture every child's potential. However, the annual release of exam results continues to fuel societal anxiety. They also called for junior high schools to cease publishing Comprehensive Assessment Program (會考) scores, advocating for adaptive learning that doesn't solely rely on exam performance as the standard.
In a related development, Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Girls' Senior High School (高雄女中) faced public scrutiny after no students achieved the highest score tier. The school explained that girls are relatively weaker in math than boys, sparking debate.
