TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a significant shift in U.S. military strategy, Taipei is set to become the foremost recipient of American military aid post-Ukraine-Russia conflict, the top U.S. official in Taiwan revealed in an interview with Liberty Times published on Monday (March 10).

Raymond Greene (谷立言), director of the American Institute in Taiwan (美國在台協會, AIT), highlighted that while the U.S. has redirected resources to support Ukraine, Taiwan's defense priorities will come to the forefront when the war ends. Greene stressed the urgency of fast-tracking the delivery of asymmetric warfare equipment to Taiwan, despite recent arms sales being delayed due to U.S. resource commitments to Ukraine.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs François Wu (吳志中) expressed Taiwan's desire for a stronger security alliance with the U.S., emphasizing the expectation of sustained military support. This comes amid increased military pressure from China, which has conducted large-scale exercises and frequently sent military aircraft and ships into sensitive areas around Taiwan.

In a recent development, Wang Hu-ning (王滬寧), chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (全國政協), adopted a more aggressive stance on Taiwan during a Beijing meeting, urging the push for national reunification.

Compounding the geopolitical tension, on Feb. 28, former President Donald Trump announced a pause on all pending military aid to Ukraine after a high-stakes meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in the Oval Office.
