CHIAYI (TVBS News) — The Chiayi City Government (嘉義市政府) announced on Monday (March 10) several prime locations for viewing the "Manhattanhenge" spectacle, which will grace the city starting Tuesday for three consecutive days. The best time pegged at 5:41 p.m. to 6:01 p.m. on Tuesday west of Wenhua Road (文化路).
Officials highlighted the chessboard street layout as ideal for observing the phenomenon. Iconic landmarks, such as the Fountain Circle (中央噴水池) and the pedestrian plaza near Gongming Road (公明路), offer excellent vantage points. The city government noted that on Chuiyang Road (垂楊路) near Chongwen Elementary School's (崇文國小) overpass, viewers can witness the sunset at the bustling street's end.
The city has seen a surge in photographers during past "Manhattanhenge" events, especially along Minzu Road (民族路) and Zhongshan Road (中山路). However, officials cautioned against lingering on streets for photos, which has previously caused safety concerns between pedestrians and vehicles. "While capturing the beauty, residents should also prioritize their safety," the city government advised.
As "Manhattanhenge" draws enthusiasts to Chiayi, the city urges visitors to enjoy the spectacle responsibly. This year promises a captivating experience, with the sun's position shifting approximately four minutes earlier each day, creating a dynamic visual treat for onlookers.
