TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Switzerland's capital witnessed a diplomatic milestone Wednesday (Jun 11) as the Taipei Representative Office honored Ambassador David Huang (黃偉峰) with an elegant farewell gathering in Bern. Seventy distinguished guests, including influential members of the Swiss Parliament's Taiwan Friendship Group, celebrated Huang's remarkable seven-year diplomatic mission that significantly strengthened bilateral relations. The ambassador's tenure marked a pivotal period in Taiwan-Switzerland cooperation across diplomatic, economic, and cultural spheres.

Huang delivered heartfelt reflections during his farewell address, acknowledging how Switzerland's rich cultural tapestry broadened his diplomatic perspective while revealing promising avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation. Swiss parliamentarians Jon Pult, Lukas Reimann, and Nicolas Walder offered warm tributes to the ambassador's dedicated service throughout his tenure. Walder particularly praised Huang's distinctive diplomatic charisma and drew compelling parallels between Taiwan and Switzerland's shared appreciation for stunning natural beauty and deeply rooted cultural values.

Jean-Luc Addor of the Swiss People's Party (SVP), a major conservative political party in Switzerland, highlighted the profound ideological bonds uniting both nations through their commitment to preserving traditional culture, fostering equitable economic growth, and championing democratic principles. Social Democratic Party (SP) representative Pult commended Huang's transformative impact on Swiss understanding of Taiwan's democratic achievements. The parliamentarian emphasized that Switzerland's support for Taiwan fundamentally represents a defense of democratic values worldwide. ◼
