TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Presidential Office unveiled an unprecedented national security initiative Thursday (June 12), with spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧) announcing that Secretary-General Pan Men-an (潘孟安) has formally contacted the opposition Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) regarding a crucial briefing. Pan provided detailed information about plans and progress for what officials describe as a landmark national security presentation. The outreach represents a significant departure from traditional partisan divisions in Taiwan's political landscape, particularly on sensitive security matters affecting the island democracy.

Kuo underscored the historic significance of this initiative, emphasizing that Taiwan has never before conducted a comprehensive national security briefing specifically designed for opposition party leaders. The spokesperson expressed optimism about receiving constructive responses from both the Kuomintang and Taiwan People's Party, with the primary objective of ensuring opposition leaders develop a complete understanding of Taiwan's current national security landscape. Kuo articulated hopes that all political parties can transcend partisan divisions to prioritize national interests, establish national security as the fundamental cornerstone, and collaborate effectively in confronting the complex challenges facing Taiwan.

Kuo further emphasized the critical importance of elevating national interests and security considerations above traditional party political boundaries in Taiwan's democratic system. The Presidential Office spokesperson issued a direct appeal for all political parties to demonstrate unity when confronting the significant national challenges facing the island. Regarding future procedural steps, Kuo indicated that the Office of the President (總統府) will provide comprehensive public announcements detailing additional arrangements once official responses are received from both the KMT and TPP leadership. ◼
