NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The "Midsummer Night's Dream" concert in Yonghe District (永和區), New Taipei, drew a substantial crowd on Friday (July 12) despite torrential downpours. Now in its 29th year, this beloved local tradition marks the beginning of a summer performance series that will continue with themed shows on two Saturdays in August.
New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) attended the event and expressed his appreciation to audience members for enduring the inclement weather. The evening featured moving performances, including Golden Melody Award-winner Henry Hsu (許富凱) performing "Mian Zhao Bei" (棉照被) and singer Yu Kuan-hua (于冠華) delivering a rendition of "If There's Still A Tomorrow" (如果還有明天).
The mayor delighted attendees by joining renowned vocalist Chen Wen-cheng (沈文程) for an unexpected duet of "You Are My Brother" (你是我的兄弟), adding a poignant moment to the concert. The audience's enthusiasm persisted throughout the rainy evening, demonstrating the event's lasting popularity. Additional themed performances scheduled for August will provide more entertainment options for local residents.
