TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 2025 Taipei Summer Festival launched its inaugural themed fireworks extravaganza, "A Sea of Purple and Crimson," at historic Dadaocheng Wharf Wednesday (Aug. 6). The Department of Information and Tourism (觀傳局), Taipei's tourism promotion agency, reported the dazzling 300-second spectacle celebrated the waterfront district's timeless cultural charm while drawing approximately 10,000 enthusiastic attendees. The opening show marked the beginning of the city's premier summer entertainment series.
The spectacular display opened with "A Hundred Thunderous Birds" (強勢百鳥雷鳴), featuring dramatic streams of purple fireworks intricately interwoven with explosive bursts of multicolored sparks. The breathtaking finale culminated in a stunning cascade of brilliant golden fireworks that resembled a shimmering waterfall descending over the historic wharf. Spectators gasped in amazement as the pyrotechnic artistry illuminated the night sky above Dadaocheng's traditional architecture.
Beyond the spectacular firework display, popular Taiwanese rock band Power Station (動力火車) delivered an electrifying musical performance that captivated the massive crowd. The veteran musicians engaged in witty banter with beloved television host Miao Ke-li (苗可麗), creating spontaneous comedic moments that made the enthusiastic audience roar with delighted laughter. Their dynamic stage presence perfectly complemented the festival's celebratory atmosphere.
The Department of Information and Tourism (觀傳局) observed that dedicated festival-goers arrived hours early to secure prime viewing positions for the highly anticipated performances. The tourism agency announced three additional spectacular shows scheduled for August 13, 20, and 30, providing multiple opportunities for those who missed the opening celebration. The grand finale on August 30 promises an extended eight-minute fireworks display that will surpass all previous shows. ◼
