TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) responded Tuesday (Sept. 23) to an assault on a Taiwanese woman in the U.K. Four British teenagers attacked the woman, leaving her with multiple facial bruises. Police told her she must wait six days before filing a statement.
MOFA Spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei (蕭光偉) confirmed during a routine press conference that Taiwan's representative office in the U.K. received instructions to provide necessary assistance. The ministry urged Taiwanese nationals abroad to prioritize personal safety and contact local offices for emergency assistance.
A "Chip in with Taiwan" (讓台灣參與) advertisement appeared in Times Square during the U.N. General Assembly, promoting Taiwan's international participation. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) acknowledged Monday (Sept. 22) that budget cuts prevented ministry funding for the advertisement. She thanked Pai Yueh-chu (白越珠) and North America Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce supporters for enabling the campaign through contributions.
Spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei extended thanks to the Taiwanese diaspora for their commitment to promoting Taiwan's global visibility. The ministry appreciated their efforts in placing the Times Square advertisement, ensuring Taiwan's presence receives international attention.
