TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Maritime and Port Bureau (航港局) announced Tuesday (Dec. 2) that the Keelung-Ishigaki ferry route will launch by the end of December with tickets starting at NT$2,800 (around US$90). The bureau confirmed the route will feature eight ticket categories. Operators revealed off-peak fares might start at approximately NT$2,000 (around US$65).

Wagon Group (華岡集團) General Manager Hung Yu-hang (洪郁航) stated ticket prices are under review by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Taiwan's transport ministry. He noted they expect approval by the end of the week. The ferry operator plans to announce prices once approved, with the inaugural voyage slated for late December.

Hung mentioned promotional fares during the off-peak season, including trial operation discounts that could reduce costs significantly. These prices could undercut peak season rates by NT$1,000 (around US$32) to NT$2,000 (around US$65). The shipping company plans off-peak fares from November to February, with peak fares from March to October.

The route will operate three round trips weekly, all departing at night, with an estimated travel time of eight hours. The Maritime and Port Bureau noted shipping agent Uni Wagon (東聯) submitted application documents on Nov. 27 and completed necessary registrations by Dec. 1. The bureau will continue monitoring the route's operations and assist as needed to ensure smooth service.

Ticket prices range from NT$2,800 (around US$90) for dormitory-style rooms to NT$10,500 (around US$339) for royal suites. Hung highlighted that dormitory-style promotional fares could drop to NT$2,000 (around US$65), with discounts reaching up to NT$2,000 across all room types. The operator will announce actual discounts and prices. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31)
