TAIPEI (TVBS News) — McDonald's Taiwan launched its first-ever Super Mario collaboration on Wednesday (April 1), offering collectible figurines for NT$49 (US$1.53) with any combo meal purchase. The figurines, inspired by the game's iconic Super Star item, function as keychains or tabletop decorations with adjustable poses. The collectibles will be released in three waves through April 28, with four different characters available each week and a limit of four figurines per transaction.
Happy Meals will feature Super Mario-themed packaging with classic characters including Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi and Bowser Jr. throughout the campaign period. Customers who purchase a four-piece Happy Meal set will receive a free Super Mario-themed booklet containing character stories and adventure content. Children can access an interactive digital scene tied to the Mario universe by scanning a QR code inside the Happy Meal packaging.
McDonald's also introduced two new Korean-inspired menu items alongside the Super Mario collaboration to attract customers. The Korean-style garlic sweet chili fried chicken drumstick (韓風香蒜甘醬炸鷄腿) is priced at NT$134 (US$4.20) a la carte or NT$199 (US$6.23) as a value meal. The Korean-style garlic sweet chili chicken burger (韓風香蒜甘醬鷄腿堡) costs NT$124 (US$3.88) a la carte or NT$189 (US$5.92) as a value meal, giving diners two spicy options to pair with the gaming-themed promotion.
From Thursday to April 21, customers who purchase designated combo meals from the Korean-style garlic sweet chili series through the McDonald's app will receive a complimentary small Sprite as an additional incentive. Those who redeem both promotional coupons during the campaign period will become eligible to enter a drawing for a Sprite-branded mini digital camera. A total of 1,000 cameras will be given away nationwide throughout the promotional period as part of the beverage brand's partnership with McDonald's Taiwan. ◼ (At time of reporting, US$1 equals approximately NT$31.93)
