TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Dissatisfied with the governmental relocation policies for the Taoyuan Aerotropolis Project, over a thousand residents and several legislators gathered at the Control Yuan's plaza on Friday (Oct. 13) to voice their discontent

The Taoyuan Aerotropolis Project, Taiwan's most substantial land expropriation case, has ignited anger among affected residents who disapprove of the housing prices for resettlement.

After continuous and unheeded public appeals, they voiced their grievances at the Control Yuan again on Friday.

Huang Shih-chieh, the Democratic Progressive Party's legislator, stressed that the government should adjust the relocation compensation according to the price index. The high cost of resettlement housing, resulting from rising prices, should be absorbed by the government and not shifted onto the people, he said.

In response to residents' dissatisfaction, the Taoyuan City Government stated that they had increased the budget for structural compensation by 20% and offered resettlement accommodations at a discounted price.

However, the affected households claim that they have never felt adequately compensated.

Kuomintang (KMT) Councilor Hsu Chi-wan criticized the government for repeatedly offering the same responses to appeals from the expropriated households and suggested that the compensation measures executed by Taoyuan's Land Administration Department should be expedited and promptly announced.
