TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ko Wen-je, presidential candidate for the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), hosted a livestream on his YouTube channel Monday night (Dec. 25) to discuss China's mediation in the elections.

Recently, the Taiwan Taichung District Prosecutors Office received a report from local authorities alleging that an internet journalist may have been instructed by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in China's Fujian Province to produce false public opinion polls.

During the live stream, Ko accused China of generating fake polls in favor of the Kuomintang (KMT) party's "Hou-Jaw" (Hou Yu-ih, Jaw Shaw-kong) ticket, with the primary objective being electoral fraud.

He warned voters that choosing the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) would increase the risk of war, and choosing the KMT would carry the threat of being bought by mainland China.

Ko expressed no surprise at China's interference in the election and questioned the motives behind the falsified polls. He pointed out that both the DPP and the KMT aim to exploit their relationships with China to influence the election. The DPP champions an anti-China stance, while the KMT relies on China and the sway of Taiwanese businessmen--many of whom have business in China.

Ko concluded that he sees himself as a safer choice, promising to maintain peace and Taiwan's independence.
