TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Weather experts are warning residents in northern and northeastern Taiwan to keep their warm clothing handy as temperatures are expected to drop to around 20 degrees Celsius from Wednesday to Saturday mornings, with some areas possibly dipping below 20 degrees.

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported Monday (May 6) that a front passed over the northern sea of Taiwan, leaving slightly more moisture. This resulted in brief showers in the north and eastern half of the island, with scattered rainfall in the central region during the morning. Other areas experienced mostly sunny to cloudy weather, with brief thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Temperatures across the island ranged from 24 to 26 degrees in the early morning, with daytime highs reaching between 30 and 34 degrees.

The CWA also noted that the northeastern monsoon will slightly strengthen on Wednesday and Thursday, causing a slight cool down in the north and northeast. The low temperature in northern Taiwan will be around 20 degrees, with other areas also experiencing cooler mornings and evenings, with lows of around 21 to 23 degrees. Brief showers are expected in the north and eastern half on Wednesday, with scattered showers in the east and southeast on Thursday.

Looking ahead, the CWA forecasts that the northeastern monsoon will weaken from Friday to Sunday, with temperatures gradually rising again. The wind direction will shift to the east and southeast, with mostly sunny to cloudy weather across the island. Scattered brief showers are expected in the east and southeast, with brief afternoon thunderstorms in the mountainous areas.
