TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced on Tuesday (Aug. 13) that Tropical Storm Maria has weakened to a tropical depression. Meanwhile, Typhoon Son-Tinh and Typhoon Ampil pose no direct threat to Taiwan, the CWA added.

Meteorologist Daniel Wu (吳德榮) analyzed that temperatures from Aug. 13 to Aug. 19 will hover around 36 degrees Celsius, indicating hot conditions. Wu noted there is a chance of localized short-duration showers in the western part of Taiwan early in the morning, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms in the afternoon due to expanding vital convection areas. He advised the public to be cautious of severe weather, including lightning, strong winds, and sudden heavy rain.

The CWA also reminded residents that from Aug. 20 to Aug. 22, the strengthening and westward extension of the Pacific high-pressure system will push the southwest monsoon through Taiwan. This will bring significant rainfall, and the threat should not be underestimated. They urged residents to monitor weather updates closely.
