TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese Representative to Germany Shieh Jhy-wey (謝志偉) attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) in Dresden on Tuesday (Aug. 20), emphasizing the importance of Taiwan-Germany technological cooperation during the event.

Shieh led a team from Taiwan's representative office in Berlin to the ceremony. He witnessed speeches from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Saxony Minister President Michael Kretschmer, who all expressed gratitude for TSMC's partnership. Shieh said he felt both proud and moved by their recognition of Taiwan.

The representative highlighted that trust extends beyond production to the collaboration between partners, including TSMC and Taiwan, a free and democratic country with over 23 million people, as well as Germany and the European Union. He mentioned that more TSMC employees and contractors would soon move to Saxony.

To ensure a smooth transition, Taiwan's representative office has engaged multiple times with the Saxony government to create a livable environment. This includes addressing basic needs such as food and education options for employees' children. Shieh noted that Germany is actively preparing for these changes.
