TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council (NSTC, 國科會) Minister assured on Wednesday (March 12) that Taiwan remains the core for advanced process R&D and manufacturing, emphasizing that TSMC's (台積電) international ventures aim to extend Taiwan's manufacturing prowess, not diminish it.

During a press conference, Minister Wu Cheng-wen (吳誠文) addressed concerns about TSMC's overseas investments, highlighting that TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei's (魏哲家) recent discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump align with Taiwan's principles.

Wu reiterated that Taiwan will be the first mass production plant for advanced processes, and global expansion will occur only after successful local implementation. He expressed gratitude for TSMC's role in strengthening ties with the U.S., noting that Taiwan's semiconductor and AI hardware industries will benefit from this collaboration.

Wu further dismissed concerns about "hollowing out Taiwan" as overblown, affirming that these investments will enhance Taiwan's security and economic strength. He concluded that TSMC's expansion plans will continue to benefit both Taiwan and its international partners.
