TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency (林業及自然保育署) and Yunlin County Government launched the "Bamboo Innovation Base × Bamboo Structure Academy" (竹創基地 × 竹構學苑) on Thursday (Feb. 5) at Yunlin County's Douliu Sugar Factory (斗六糖廠). This event marks a significant milestone in local culture, industrial innovation, and sustainable education, according to a press release.
The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency stated that the Douliu Sugar Factory, located along a key route from Douliu City (斗六) to Gukeng Township (古坑), boasts rich biodiversity and industrial culture. The agency is supported by the Lizen Education Foundation (利仁教育基金) to promote the Bamboo Construction Academy project. The site will become a city park that integrates the culture of the sugar industry with bamboo construction art, combining bamboo construction technology, craftsmanship aesthetics, and sustainability concepts.
The opening event featured dynamic and static elements, including bamboo craft exhibitions, bamboo lifestyle and plant displays, bamboo construction tours and experiences, a bamboo market, a bamboo banquet, and the release of the "Bamboo Capsule House" manual with structural experiences. More exhibitions will be staged in phases, with multiple guided tours and experiences scheduled daily during the festival period.
The Yunlin County Government expressed that the Douliu Sugar Factory's Bamboo Innovation Base will become a crucial platform for promoting innovation in the bamboo industry and talent cultivation. The base will combine local practical implementation with creating and promoting educational spaces. The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency added that it plans to gradually expand the application of domestic bamboo materials and develop industrial supply chains.
