TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A heatwave grips Taiwan on Wednesday (April 22), with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 33°C (86°F to 91°F) and southern mountainous areas potentially exceeding 36°C (97°F), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署). The CWA predicted partly cloudy to clear skies, with only sporadic showers in the southeast and Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島). TVBS weather consultant Cheng Ming-dean (鄭明典) advised the public to stay hydrated and take precautions against the sun.

Meteorologist Lin De-en (林得恩) highlighted the possibility of afternoon convective development on Wednesday, leading to isolated showers in the Yilan and Hualien areas and other mountainous regions. Lin explained that the pre-frontal warm zone will bring higher temperatures and muggy conditions, often accompanied by clear skies or afternoon rain. The public should take necessary precautions against the intense heat.

Cheng noted that a weather front will move southward across Taiwan starting Thursday, bringing unstable thunderstorms and a significant temperature drop. Taiwan Typhoon Forum | Weather Express (台灣颱風論壇|天氣特急) added that the incoming front will bring three days of continuous spring rain, with substantial rainfall expected in the western half of the island. The spring rain front will sweep across from Thursday to Saturday, with the South China rainband moving in.

Rainfall will concentrate in central and southern regions on Friday, with temperatures in the north and Yilan dropping to 20°C to 21°C (68°F to 70°F). The south will see highs of 27°C to 30°C (81°F to 86°F). This rainy and cooler weather pattern, accompanied by intermittent rain across the island, will persist until Saturday.

The northeast monsoon and the eastward-moving South China rainband will maintain cool and moist conditions across Taiwan on Saturday. The weather will stabilize starting Sunday as the northeast monsoon weakens, leading to rising temperatures and reduced moisture. As the South China rainband departs, Taiwan will see a gradual cessation of rain from west to east, with a return to sunny conditions. The north will see highs of 27°C to 29°C (81°F to 84°F), while central and southern regions will reach 30°C to 32°C (86°F to 90°F). ◼
